Firefighters battle structure blaze near Winter Park Highlands

Fire officials were called to the scene of a structure fire Tuesday afternoon in the Winter Park Highlands area. The structure where the fire occurred was vacant at the time of the blaze, according to local authorities.

Local fire officials are currently battling a structure fire in the Winter Park Highlands area.

According to Schelly Olson, Assistant Chief with Grand Fire Protection District, firefighters from Grand Fire, based in Granby, and East Grand Fire, based in the Fraser Valley, were called to a structure fire in the Winter Park Highlands area at 4:15 p.m.

Olson confirmed that firefighters are currently battling the blaze, which occurred in a single-family dwelling that was vacant at the time. Along with the structure, which is located on Grand County Road 851, a car also caught fire, resulting in significant amounts of black and grey smoke, constant car alarms and an occasional airbag explosion.

Since the initial call for response firefighters from Grand Lake Fire Protection District have also been called out to provide aid on the call. Additionally the Grand County Sheriff’s Office, Granby Police and Grand County EMS are assisting.
