A Fraser Winter Park police officer is facing a charge of domestic violence and has been placed on leave while the case is being adjudicated, officials confirmed Thursday.
District Attorney Matt Karzen said he is not inclined to release the arrest report because the investigation is ongoing, but he said the alleged incident is being reviewed for prosecution.
“The matter is still under review,” Karzen said. “He is charged but … we’ve got some follow-up investigation to do.”
According to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office booking log, deputies arrested Sgt. Sean Curran for harassment with a domestic violence enhancer around 10:45 p.m. June 28.
While the alleged incident occurred within the Fraser Winter Park Police Department’s jurisdiction, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office Dan Mayer said the sheriff’s office handled the criminal investigation to prevent any potential conflicts of interest.
The sheriff’s office then sent the report to the 14th Judicial District Attorney’s office, Mayer said.
The Fraser Winter Park Police Department is also conducting an administrative investigation apart from the criminal investigation to determine whether Curran violated any of the department’s policies, according to Police Chief Glen Trainor.
Curran has been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, said Trainor, who added that he couldn’t comment further because it is a personnel matter.
Curran’s attorney could not be reached for comment. Curran is scheduled to appear in the Grand County County Court for a continued arraignment at 9 a.m. July 22.
