The executive director of the Grand County Historical Association has announced her candidacy for Grand County commissioner.
Shanna Ganne, who’s described as an artist, nonprofit professional and community advocate, will be running in District Two against Commissioner Merrit Linke. Linke began as a county commissioner in 2013 and is seeking re-election.
In a Monday announcment, Ganne said she plans to prioritize working families, including working to extend transportation to Hot Sulphur Springs and Grand Lake to help residents get to and from their jobs. She said she plans to make decisions with working people in mind.
“A healthy workforce needs access to quality child care and health care, safe and affordable housing, and reliable transportation; our economy and small businesses depend on it,” Ganne said. “We can’t support a growing resort without it. Our priority has to be ensuring that locals thrive.”
Ganne moved to Grand County as an artist in 2004. She began work at the Grand County Historical Association in January 2018 after completing her masters in nonprofit management.
She has experience serving on the East Grand School District Accountability Committee and as the treasurer for the Fraser Valley Elementary Parents Association. Ganne sits on the Grand County Scenic Byways Committee, the Community Leader Group for the Rural Health Network and the 14th Judicial Performance Review Commission. She has also worked to advocate for parental rights and volunteered with the Skier Education Fund.
She lives in Granby with her fiancé and two sons, ages 12 and 2.
