A 38-year-old Granby man died Monday afternoon in a skateboard wreck in Winter Park.
In a Tuesday news release, Fraser Winter Park police identified the man as William Harding of Granby.
Shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, Grand County first-responders were alerted to an accident near Old Town Drive and Winter Park Drive in Winter Park, according to the release.
Upon arrival, first responders found Harding lying face down on the pavement. He was bleeding heavily from a head wound and not breathing.
The release says CPR was performed on Harding immediately. He was then taken to the East Grand Community Clinic where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told police they saw Harding skateboarding down Old Town Drive at a high speed before making a right turn onto Winter Park Drive. As he was doing so, Harding lost control and was thrown off his skateboard. He was not wearing a helmet, police said.
Grand County EMS, the East Grand Fire District and the Grand County Coroner’s office responded to the accident. An autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death is pending.
“Skateboarding or the riding of any ‘toy’ vehicle is prohibited by law on public streets,” police noted in the news release. “We would also encourage our boarding community to always wear a helmet, regardless of where they ride.”
