Children at Granby Preschool are getting the chance to explore nature, build outdoor skills and enjoy daily activity without ever having to leave their playground thanks to a recent upgrade.
With grants from the Buell Foundation, Healthy Beginnings and Mountain Parks Electric, the Granby Preschool was able to add natural features, such as stepping stumps and logs to climb and balance on, as well as redoing the bike path to allow more children to ride during recess.
“There’s a big push these days doing natural playgrounds for kids because kids are just not exposed to a lot of natural landscapes,” said Rhonda Hill, Granby Preschool director. “(The kids) were so excited, so it’s been really fun. We’re able to have all the bikes out and have all the kids ride safely.”
Aside from the benefits of interacting with nature, Hill said the new features are also safer for the children. She hopes to continue improving the playground with more natural shade areas and putting down more grass.
Hill also highlighted the support the project received from Grand County Landscaping and Acord Asphalt.
