Granby Ranch bike park opens for the season with ideal conditions

On one of the first few warm and sunny mornings of the season so far, mountain bike enthusiasts lined up at Granby Ranch to take advantage of the fresh trails that opened Friday.

The ranch’s Quickdraw Express Lift got running at around 10 a.m. to a small group of excited bikers, but it wasn’t long before more rolled in to enjoy a morning on the mountain.

Matt Tacocha, marketing manager for the Granby Ranch bike park, said all of the trails are open to the public and conditions are ideal for biking.

“It’s perfect for opening day,” he said. “The trails are dry and a little tacky, so perfect for bike tires. People seem to be having fun.”

He also mentioned that this year, Granby Ranch has a full-time bike trail crew to keep things groomed and make sure conditions are good all year.

With both downhill and cross country trails for riders, Tacocha said the bike park tries to cater to all skill levels and many interests. He highlighted that younger riders, families, beginning riders and differently-abled riders can take advantage of the e-mountain bike rentals, as well as a down-country day pass that gives riders access to both kinds of trails and expands their options.

Granby Ranch will also be participating in Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, which is Saturday, by offering a free child’s single-day lift ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket on June 1 and 2.

Ultimately, Tacocha said Granby Ranch is working on building a biking community at the resort. To that end, they will be hosting watch parties for all of the Union Cycliste Internationale Mountain Bike World Cup races at the Granby Ranch Grill, as well as hosting the first round of the Revolution Enduro race series and more.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do to bring this community together,” Tacocha said.
