Granby could see a new park in the center of town soon.
At the town board meeting on Sept. 24, Ali Williams, interim executive director at the Granby Chamber of Commerce, updated the board on the idea to transform a parking lot into a “pocket park.”
The chosen location for the park would be in the town-owned lot near Brickhouse 40. While officials brought up concerns about losing parking, it is possible a shift in layout could actually increase the number of available parking spots downtown with the park. According to Williams, the goal at the very least is to keep the number the same.
Williams said she hopes to receive a grant from the Colorado Health Foundation to implement the project, but the deadline is quickly approaching.
Board members requested further discussion with businesses and the community in Granby, especially with regards to potential parking concerns.
Williams said that there would be plenty of workshops before the plan was implemented, but securing the funding would be the first step.
“We’re excited for this opportunity,” Williams said. “We think that a park like this could encourage intergenerational engagement that the town could really use.”
The idea for the park came from a study earlier this summer that asked the community what could make Granby’s main street better. It found four main themes: increasing street safety, green space, gathering spaces and art.
Williams said the proposed park could fulfill the community’s desire for green space and gathering spaces.
