Granby town board adds meeting minutes online

The Granby Town Board now has written minutes of town meetings available to the public on the town’s website.

This move puts Granby on track with the other towns around
Grand County that have already been posting board minutes online.

The minutes are not posted until the board has approved them. The meetings that have been posted online go back to January and will be regularly updated pending board approval.

The board had been posting recorded sessions of the meetings since June, but some board members, including Trustee Natascha O’Flaherty, felt posting the minutes would increase transparency.

“This seems like such an obvious thing that all the
surrounding communities are doing,” O’Flaherty said at a town board meeting
earlier this month. “This is basic Governance 101 in transparency.”

There was also interest in making packets involving the background information of agenda items available to the public. Other municipalities have these packets available, but they are less detailed than Granby board trustees’ packets.

Posting the packets to the public as given to the board will be more difficult to do, as confidential parts of these records would need to be redacted. The concern was that the redaction process would take up too much time.

The other option would be to reduce the amount of
information given to board members and post the same packets online, which
board members hesitated to do.

Granby town board agendas, minutes and recordings are
available on the town’s website under the government tab.
