Grand Concerts putting on second show of series tonight

Duo Erti performed at the Church of Eternal Hills on Jan. 10 in Tabernash, the first concert in a six-concert series of Grand Concerts.

In the concert, pianist Daredjan Kakouberi, originally from Tbilisi, Georgia, and Violist Gary Levinson, originally from St. Petersburg, Russia, offered an exceptional musical interpretation of classics by Johann Sebastian Bach and Ludwig van Beethoven.

Now, music fans will be treated to a unique performance at 7 p.m. today by the Dorian Wind Quintet, featuring a special “baking operetta” performed by Soprano Samantha Mallk. “Bon Appétit!” was adapted from a classic Julia Child television program. The concert will also feature a “gourmet” selection, such as “If Music is the Food of Love” by Henry Purcell and “Lunch Menu” by Karl Kramer-Johansen.

The Dorian Wind Quintet has performed around the world, including many international festivals and New York appearances. Formed at Tanglewood in 1961, the Dorian Wind is known as chamber music’s preeminent and longest continuously active ensembles. The London Times called Dorian Wind, “breathtaking.” Time magazine called Dorian Wind “one of chamber music’s most sparkling and eloquent ensembles” today.

All concerts are at Church of the Eternal Hills, 100 Meadows Blvd., Tabernash. Tickets are $25 at the door and performances are followed by a complimentary wine reception.
