A member on the Grand Lake Board of Trustees has resigned due to pressing personal matters.
Phyllis Price resigned her position on Nov. 18 due to health concerns with her husband. According to her letter of resignation, she has had to divide her time between Grand Lake and Utah.
“Legally, I still meet the requirements to be on the board but feel that I will not be able to represent the town to the best of my ability because of spending time between our two homes,” Price said in the letter.
Price went on to say that she plans to continue to be involved with the town and encouraged the board to keep up their work in Grand Lake.
The town announced this resignation at the Nov. 25 board meeting.
“Phyllis Price has been a valued member of our community for many years and the town will greatly miss her knowledge, energy and deep concern for the town’s well being,” Town Manager John Crone said in a memo to the board.
The town board is required by state and municipal code to fill the vacancy by Jan. 17 through appointment or special election.
As the vacant position is up for election April 7, the town manager recommended that the town appoint someone to fill the vacancy as the best course of action. While there is no requirement that the town advertises the vacancy or solicits applications, Grand Lake has traditionally taken these actions.
The board plans to appoint the trustee at the Jan. 13 meeting.
Interested parties must submit a letter of interest and proof of qualification by 12 p.m. Dec. 24 to the town clerk. Applicants must be a registered elector of Grand Lake, at least 18 years old and have lived in Grand Lake for at least 12 consecutive months preceding the date of appointment.
