A Greyhound bus full of passengers made an unexpected three-hour detour when the bus got caught in deep snow on US Highway 40 outside Winter Park on Sunday evening.
East Grand Fire responded to a call around 6 p.m. Sunday that a Greyhound bus had gotten caught in deep snow and the bus had turned onto its side.
According to East Grand Fire, some passengers had been able to exit the bus through the emergency hatch before first responders got to the scene. However, many passengers were stuck inside as the front door was blocked by compacted snow.
Fire crews utilized ladders and personnel to safely evacuate the remaining bus passengers, including children and elder riders. One passenger was evaluated by Grand County EMS, but no one was transported to the hospital.
The passengers and their personal items were put on a Lift bus and taken to the Balcony House at Winter Park Resort to wait for a replacement Greyhound bus, which wasn’t due at the resort for at least three hours after the incident.
