Kremmling budgets for $1.4 million in spending

Kremmling’s 2020 budget lays out $1.4 million in spending, an almost 6% increase over 2019.

According to the budget approved by Kremmling Town Council on Wednesday, the town expects revenue of almost $1.3 million and will dip into this year’s funds to make up the difference.

Overall revenue is projected to increase slightly in 2020, and sales tax revenue is predicted to go up by 50%. While the town’s mill levy will not rise, property tax revenue will increase based on the new assessment valuation.

Salaries and wages in the general fund make up 37.3% of expenditures for 2020. Personnel costs reflect a 3% cost of living increase based on the Denver-Boulder-Greeley Consumer Price Index.

The legislative salary has been cut in half due to board meetings being reduced to once a month, and the budget for administration will decrease by $16,000 due to changes in staff.

The town will contribute $46,000 to the Kremmling Chamber, a $3,000 increase. It’s also giving $1,500 to the Headwaters Trails Alliance and $1,500 to the Grand PLACES initiative.

The budget allocates another $15,000 for security improvements at town hall and $8,000 for a new copy machine.

The police department’s budget is down slightly due to changes in staffing. Capital outlay for the department includes a new squad car, spike strip system, in-car citation printers, a Kevlar vest and two iPads.

For highways and streets, the town has budgeted over $15,000 for drainage improvements on Jackson Avenue and almost $50,000 for a replacement project on Kinsey Avenue between 21st and 22nd Streets. Other budget items include a partial contribution for a new pickup truck, contingency for road projects and a Skidster broom.
