The Kremmling Depot has received historical designation from the State Historical Fund.
Historical designation for the depot allows the Grand County Historical Society to apply for funding to restore the building. The society is working to construct a permanent foundation for the depot.
A foundation will allow the society to open the depot to the public and use it as an exhibit and community meeting place.
“The Historic Designation by the state of Colorado is the first step in GCHA’s investment into our community,” said Shanna Ganne, director of the historical association. “We are thrilled to create community spaces and locations of learning while expanding heritage, culture and historical tourism in our area.”
The depot is located at the Heritage Park Museum complex in Kremmling after a group of history lovers saved the depot from demolition in 2008.
The historical significance of the depot comes from the construction of the Denver, Northwest and Pacific Railway. The Kremmling Depot is the last surviving depot of this time and acted as the main mode of transportation in Kremmling through the 1960s.
