When recreational marijuana was legalized in Colorado, I
went to the Town of Granby meeting where the public was overwhelmingly in favor
of keeping all growing, manufacturing and sales out of the town.
Granby did implement this policy.
Now it appears someone has taken advantage of a piece of
county property that is just outside town limits to bring in a pot shop. I have
been reading letters to the editor regarding this issue, and it seems the man
who doesn’t want to drive all the way to Tabernash is more concerned with his
own safety and wellbeing than that of the many children who live and go to
school in Granby.
I realize there are already some in place that would need to
be grandfathered in, but I propose a three-mile buffer be put in place
prohibiting the growing, manufacturing and sales of marijuana around any school
in Grand County to provide some protection for our children.
Such a ruling would keep the public from having to spend so
much time and energy that could be put to better use and prevent this from happening
over and over again. Let’s show our support in denying the permit for the pot
shop on US Highway 40 by attending the Nov. 12 county commissioners meeting.
As an after note, wouldn’t it be nice to have a recreation center in Granby so we don’t have to travel over the bad road all the way to Fraser or Winter Park to take our children and grandchildren swimming, etc…
