Fire crews across Grand County were called to help put out a wildfire near Dumont in Clear Creek County on Thursday.
Grand Lake Fire Chief Kevin Ratzmann said the department was sending two wildland fire trucks with four full-time personnel to assist in the effort. He added that the Grand Fire and East Grand Fire districts also each sent a truck to Clear Creek County, as well crew members.
The assortment basically forms the Grand County strike team that’s helping authorities in Clear Creek County. The assist was made possible through the Mountain Area Mutual Aid Agreement, which allows mountain communities to call for each other’s help free of charge.
“It’s so we can get on a fire quick and knock it out before it grows into a big fire,” Ratzmann said of the agreement.
He didn’t have too many details about the blaze in Clerk Creek County on Thursday, saying only that Grand Lake Fire knows it is on a hillside and the strike team will be meeting Clear Creek County officials at the command post.
