The National Sports Center for the Disabled’s only wheelchair accessible van in Denver was reported stolen from Mile High Stadium early Sunday morning.
Based out of Winter Park Resort, the National Sports Center for the Disabled has offices at the Mile High Stadium in Denver, where the nonprofit offers sports and recreational programming. The van was stolen at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday.
Shortly after the theft, video surveillance captured the van being used to break into a bike store in Littleton.
Diane Eustace, operations and communications director for the center, said losing the van has forced the center to do programs out of its offices since the group can no longer transport participants.
She added that the center doesn’t have the funds to replace the van, which costs around $40,000, and they hope to recover the vehicle so the center can continue offering all of its programming.
The Denver Police Department is investigating. Anyone with information about the stolen van or break-in is encouraged to call 720-913-0400.
