Middle Park boys 2nd in Nordic race

The Middle Park boys Nordic ski team took second place in its second race of the season during a 5-kilometer skating (freestyle) race at Tennessee Pass last weekend.

Top skier for the Panther boys was Vinny Troccoli, who came in fifth place, with a time of 15 minutes, 37 seconds, followed by Ethan Callarman (7th, 15:45) and Gray Barker (12th, 16:02).

Other top Panther skiers for the boys were Will Kuhns (53rd, 17:59), Chance Hein (66th, 18:35), Kyle Vogelbacher (72nd , 18:52), Ewan Gallagher (80th, 19:38), and Jack Nesvara (117th, 24:38). A total of 134 skiers competed in the boys event.

For the Panther girls, Maggie Barker was the first Panther skier, completing the 5-K course in 19 minutes and 54 seconds, taking 21st place. She was followed by Middle Park skiers Sierra Jamison (44th, 21:50), and Gabrielle Pellini (49th, 22:20). A total of 101 high school girls competed in the event.

The skiing at Tennessee Pass was a prelude for Middle Park’s home event on Saturday at Snow Mountain Ranch near Granby. The event will feature two races with a classic race in the morning and skating in the afternoon. The public is encouraged to attend the event and cheer on the teams.

The East Grand Middle School boys and girls Nordic ski teams put in third place finishes in the 2.5-kilometer skate race at Tennessee Pass on Saturday.

East Grand’s Annie Kuhns came in third place for the girls at 9:48. The next skier for the girls was Anna Lantermans in 15th place with a time of 11:28. Other skiers for the East Grand girls were Haley Miller (17th, 11:43), followed by Lena Moss (30th, 14:33) and Sabra Forquer (32nd, 18:07).

The middle school boys saw Carter Chamberlain with a third place finish and a time of 10 minutes. David Hammond followed closely behind in fifth place with a time of 10:19. Other East Grand skiers were Jackson Pacocha (20th, 12:04), Barrett Acker (30th, 17:55) and Franklin Stine (31st, 19:34).

East Grand Middle School hosts a home meet this Saturday in conjunction with Middle Park High School at Snow Mountain Ranch. The middle schoolers will compete in a classic-technique race.
