Middle Park runner off to state

Middle Park sophomore Leah Cormican is preparing for this weekend’s state cross country meet in Colorado Springs after becoming the only Grand County runner to qualify for the big race.

Throughout the year, Cormican has consistently posted some of the best finishes among Grand County’s runners, and she was the only one from the county to qualify for state.

“It felt really accomplishing,” Cormican said of making the cut. “Knowing that I was the only one was kind of weird, but I was very proud to be able to go to state this year.”

She won’t be lonely at the meet, though, because Cormican is taking her good friend Maddy Trail with her to the big race. This will be Cormican’s first time at state, and she is hoping to finish in the top 20.
