Winter Park Resort is about to host some of the country’s best riders for USA Cycling’s Mountain Bike National Championships on July 23-28 and organizers are looking for help.

For the championships, more than 970 riders are expected to participate in a variety of events, including downhill, enduro, dual slalom, cross-country and short track cross-country.

In addition to hundreds of amateurs, the lineup will feature some of the top riders, including Seamus Powell, a four-time multi-discipline national champion, and Porsha Murdock, who comes to Winter Park looking to defend her 2018 women’s enduro crown, according to a news release.

In the dual slalom event, always a fan-favorite, a number of well-known pros will compete, such as Mitch Ropelato on the men’s side and Caroline Washam, who is looking to break through after three consecutive second place finishes on the women’s.

Meanwhile, Howard Grotts, Russell Finsterwald, Haley Batten and Rose Grant, who have multiple national championships between them, will be among the cross-country racers, the release added.

Many volunteer opportunities remain for anyone who wants to be a part of one of the top mountain bike events in the country.

For their work, volunteers will receive lunch and T-shirt, plus one Winter Park Resort lift ticket for every six hours worked or community service hours, offered by a partnership with Winter Park Fraser Valley Chamber of Commerce. Lift tickets are valid until Dec. 31, 2021, and may be used for Trestle Bike Park, summer activities or winter lift tickets.
