How do you run a business in Grand County? What’s the hardest part? How does the business change seasonally?
These were just a few of the questions asked at Two Pines Supply by Middle Park High School students participating in the inaugural career cab, which links up students with local business owners and entrepreneurs.
On Monday, 14 students in the business class spoke with Two Pines Supply owner Chris Olivier about all of the aspects involved in owning a business. The goal of the career cab, a Grand County Higher Education program, is to educate students through experience.
Olivier shared what it was like to start a brand in Grand County, some of his best advice and what he’s learned as a business owner. Then students got to ask questions and tour the business.
Jesus Saldivar, president of the Future Business Leaders of America, said he is interested in starting his own brand of clothing.
“How do you make your customers see your vision for your company and how it’s different from everyone else?” he asked Olivier.
When it comes to making a business unique, Olivier advised it’s all about telling a story.
Business teacher CarrieAnn Grayson said the program not only engages students by getting them out of class and in the community, but it helps them build knowledge and relationships that will be useful in their futures.
