Next snowstorm could bring another 30 inches to Grand County

Parts of Grand County could see another 30 inches of snow from an approaching storm.

The winter storm is expected to start late Saturday night and continue through Sunday into Monday, according to forecasters.

Parts of Grand County are expected to get anywhere from 10 to 30 inches of snow in the two days and wind gusts could reach 60 mph. Snowfall up to an inch per hour is possible during the storm.

Forecasters warn of difficult travel for the remainder of the holiday weekend. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, especially over the passes. Monday’s snow will be lighter than Sunday, but travel will remain difficult in the mountains.

Joel Gratz, meteorologist for OpenSnow.com, is predicting accumulations of 3-6 inches Saturday night and Sunday at Winter Park Resort. He’s predicting 5-10 more inches Sunday into Monday to total 8-16 inches on the mountain from the storm.

With the recent heavy snow, Winter Park’s snowpack is already at 131% the 30 year average. More snow is possible Monday night into Tuesday with another system moving in.
