Old Fall River Road will close to motor vehicles at the end of the weekend, Rocky Mountain National Park announced on Wednesday.
The high-elevation dirt road will close to drivers for the season on Monday, Oct. 7, and it will close to all users from Oct. 7-10.
During the closure, park crews will conduct road maintenance. After Oct. 10, hikers, bikers and leashed pets will have access to Old Fall River Road until Nov. 30.
Per park rules, bicycles and leashed pets are only allowed on the road, not on side trails.
On Dec. 1, the road will revert to trail status.
Old Fall River Road opened on July 12 this year after a delay due to the road experiencing winter conditions late into the spring.
The road was originally built between 1913 and 1920. The scenic drive is 9.4 miles long and winds from Endovalley Picnic Area to above treeline at Fall River Pass. Vehicles over 25 feet and those pulling trailers are prohibited because of the winding, narrow nature of the road.
