After receiving an anonymous tip in early November, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a report of animal abuse that occurred near Kremmling.
This is the second allegation of animal abuse that the sheriff’s office has investigated in as many weeks. A Grand Lake couple was charged with animal cruelty last week after they shared a video of a horse being pulled behind a pickup on Facebook.
In a Wednesday news release, the sheriff’s office said the East Grand School District and Kremmling Police Department originally received a tip about possible animal abuse through the state’s Safe2Tell anonymous hotline on Nov. 4.
The tip described a video of three minors engaged in possible abuse of a cat on Oct. 20, said Lt. Dan Mayer of the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office took over the investigation when it was discovered that the potential abuse occurred outside Kremmling town limits. Mayer said the sheriff’s office is also working with the Fraser Winter Park Police Department on the investigation so that an unbiased third party is involved.
West Grand Superintendent Darrin Peppard said the school district worked cooperatively with the Kremmling Police Department and the Grand County Sheriff’s Office on the investigation.
Since the investigation is ongoing, Mayer said further details about the incident aren’t yet available.
