A man was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree assault on Saturday after a woman was apparently stabbed with a 12-inch kitchen knife Thursday night in Kremmling.
On Saturday, law enforcement officials took 38-year-old Nathan Craw of Kremmling into custody for his alleged role in a stabbing incident two days earlier.
On Thursday, an officer was dispatched to a home on Railroad Avenue in Kremmling at roughly 10:25 p.m. on a report of domestic violence involving a female victim.
Craw reportedly met the responding officer at the door after placing the call to 911 earlier in the evening. According to Craw’s arrest warrant, he was “covered in blood” when the officer found him, and the officer noticed an apparent cut on Craw’s right hand.
Craw reportedly led the officer into the one of the bedrooms inside the house, where the officer found Craw’s girlfriend leaning over a bed with multiple cut marks on her back.
“There was a large amount of blood coming from this area as well as from her head and mouth,” the warrant states.
The officer further noticed a large kitchen knife, estimated to be 12 inches long, that was covered in blood and sitting on a stool in the bedroom.
The warrant says Craw told authorities he and his girlfriend had gotten into an argument earlier in the evening, that his girlfriend initiated the incident and that she tried to attack him with the knife amidst an ongoing argument.
Craw reportedly told investigators his girlfriend “swung the knife at him and he attempted to grab the knife away from her.”
“Craw said they both went to the ground, and he was unsure what happened next,” the warrant continues. “Craw said he may have ‘blacked out’ but was unsure until he called the police.”
The woman appeared to have seven to eight stab wounds to the back of her body and head, according to the warrant. Both Craw and the woman were taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood.
The investigation was a joint operation led by Kremmling Police with assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Grand County Sheriff’s Office. Craw was taken into custody in Denver on Saturday and was subsequently transported to the Grand County Jail.
Charges were filed against Craw on Monday. He has been accused of one count of first-degree assault causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon and one count of first-degree assault with extreme indifference, both class three felonies. Craw’s bond was set at $500,000. As of Monday afternoon, he remained in the Grand County Jail.
