Winter Park is predicted to get almost a foot of snow in the winter storm on its way to coat Grand County in fresh powder.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Winter Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Rabbit Ears Pass and Gore Pass for this afternoon through 6 p.m. Monday.
The remainder of Grand County is on a winter weather advisory for snow, windchill and hazardous roads.
Higher elevations in the county, such as Rabbit Ears and Rocky Mountain National Park, are estimated to see anywhere from 8-16 inches of snow by 6 p.m. Monday. Meanwhile, Winter Park is expected to get only slightly less snow, with the storm dropping anywhere from 6-11 inches.
At lower elevations, Granby, Fraser, Grand Lake, Hot Sulphur Springs and Kremmling should prepare for light snow totaling 5-8 inches by Monday afternoon.
The NWS is warning that for all of these areas windchill is expected to be as low as 20 below zero and exposure for as little as 30 minutes can cause frostbite.
Travel is also expected to be difficult during the storm because of impacts to the roads and reduced visibility. The NWS recommends drivers keep food, water and a flashlight in their vehicle during any travel.
Colorado state law also requires vehicles with all-wheel or four-wheel drive to have a minimum tire tread depth of 1/8 inch and those without must have snow tires or all-weather tires with the mud/snow designation.
