US 40 wreck seriously injures one

Law enforcement officials closed US Highway 40 around 9 a.m. Thursday after a head-on wreck left four people with injuries.

According to Colorado State Patrol, a Ford F-150 heading west on the Fraser Flats lost control and crossed over the middle lane, hitting an SUV headed east head-on.

The SUV then rolled off the highway into a creek. The driver of the SUV suffered the most serious injuries and was taken to Middle Park Health in Granby.

Two 8-year-old passengers in the SUV received concussions, while the driver of the F-150 experienced minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene.

CSP said Highway 40 remained closed for about 2.5 hours before it was reopened to travel in both directions around 11 a.m.
