West Grand raises police presence after receiving possible school threat

West Grand High School received a report of a potential threat to the safety of the school’s students and staff on Tuesday.

On Facebook, the district officials explained that school and district administrators are working with Kremmling police and Grand County Sheriff Office to investigate the potential threat, but did not offer any additional details about the situation.

Over the phone, Superintendent Darrin Preppard said the district hasn’t released more information yet because the investigation is ongoing, but he expects to have more later in the day today.

“We want to make sure that we take these things serious, and we do,” he said. “Also, we want to make sure our kids know school is still a very safe place to be.”

In the social media post, the district reiterated that the safety of its students, faculty and staff is the district’s top priority, and there will be an increased police presence at West Grand schools the next couple days as a precaution.

“At this time, we have no plans to cancel school for Thursday but will understand and respect should parents choose to keep their children home that day,” the Facebook post reads.
