West Grand opened the Class 2A state volleyball tournament in dramatic fashion Thursday by rallying to win in five sets vs. Del Norte.
After losing the first two sets, West Grand won the next three and downed No. 10 seeded Del Norte 19-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-10 in the state tournament’s opening round.
With the victory, West Grand moved on to play No. 2 seeded Limon. Against Limon, the Mustangs won the first set before falling 21-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19.
West Grand is set to face No. 9 seeded Delores at 11 a.m. today in the double-elimination tournament. The winner of the match will advance to play again at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
Once team’s reach Saturday’s semifinals, the tournament becomes single elimination.
