West Grand’s DeSanti makes all-state list

West Grand senior Emma DeSanti has been invited to play in the Colorado High School Coaches Association’s Class 2A All-State volleyball game on June 13 at Colorado State University-Pueblo.

The association reports serving more than 2,800 coaches across the state, and getting picked to play in the match means that DeSanti was voted onto the all-state team by the coaches.

DeSanti’s latest all-state selection comes on top of a season in which she’s already signed to play for Black Hills State University and has been selected for all-state teams picked by CHSAANow.com and by the Colorado Coaches of Girls Sports. Beyond that, DeSanti was also named the Mustangs’ Player of the Year and the Western Slope League’s Co-Player of the Year.

The recognitions for the multi-position player follows a stellar year for the Mustangs, who went 11-1 in league play and 23-6 overall.

West Grand’s 2019 volleyball campaign ended only after the Mustangs won their regional tournament and put together two five-set victories in the Class 2A state volleyball tournament inside the Denver Coliseum.

West Grand Coach Scott Terryberry agreed the added exposure of playing in the state tournament likely helped DeSanti’s case for an all-state selection, but he still thinks it’s a pick the coaches got right.

“It’s been a great pleasure to coach Emma, and it’s really great to see her get all the accolades she’s has,” he said. “She’s really deserving of it.”
