A small wildfire is burning about a mile away from the Lonesome subdivision in Grand County.
The Grand County Sheriff’s Office says no one has been hurt by the blaze, no structures have been lost, and there is no need right now for any evacuation or pre-evacuation orders.
According to the sheriff’s office, authorities received calls about smoke east of Devil’s Thumb Ranch in unincorporated Grand County at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
East Grand Fire, the Grand County Sheriff’s Office and the Grand County Office of Emergency Management responded and found a wildland fire about 100 by 200 yards in size, burning in small fuels on private lands, east of the Water Board Road.
The cause has not yet been identified, but with calm winds Thursday night, the sheriff’s office said the fire was not growing.
At about 9 p.m., jurisdiction was transferred from East Grand Fire to the sheriff’s office, and East Grand Fire, Grand Fire, the Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, the U.S. Forest Service and BLM Fire will all help with continued firefighting efforts.
A Forest Service helicopter will be involved in the effort, and the sheriff’s office noted that additional aerial assets could be brought in as necessary.
In cooperation with local fire districts and state and federal partners, Grand County monitors fire conditions throughout the wildfire season, and there are currently no restrictions in place.
The sheriff’s office is also reminding people to only call 911 in case of emergencies.
