Two freestyle skiers from Winter Park have been selected to represent Team USA in the Youth Olympics this month in Switzerland.

Hunter Carey, 17, and Svea Irving, 17, will be competing on the men’s and women’s halfpipe. The US team of 96 features 18 athletes from Colorado, including Svea and Hunter.

The 13 day competition is for athletes 15-18 years old from more than 70 countries. This year, the competition is Jan. 9-22 in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Svea is the younger sister of US Freeski Pro Team athlete Birk Irving. Birk Irving, 20, took home gold in the men’s halfpipe at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2016.

The three have been making waves the past couple years and have seen a few competitions together.

Last month, Birk Irving competed on the pro team for the World Cup in Secret Garden, China, while Svea and Hunter competed on the halfpipe as part of the rookie team. The Winter Park natives were three of 20 Americans to compete at what will be the 2022 Olympic Halfpipe Venue.
