5Point Film Festival announces full program, ticketing info

The 5Point Adventure Film Festival has released the full film program and festival schedule for the annual event coming up April 25 to 28 in Carbondale.

The popular event, which sells out regularly, “takes audiences through the lens on an emotional and thrilling journey of adventure and human storytelling through compelling programs,” according to a news release.

The festival will showcase more than 50 short films including 10 world premieres, as well as two captivating feature films set to highlight the 100th anniversary of the national park designation of the Grand Canyon.

The feature films include “Into the Canyon,” which follows local photojournalist Pete McBride and Kevin Fedarko as they set out on 750-mile walk on assignment for National Geographic Magazine to traverse the Grand Canyon by foot.

“The Weight of Water” is the story of blind adventurer Erik Weihenmayer, taking on an improbable challenge, kayaking the Grand Canyon.

According to Weihenmayer, “It’s so hard to be fully in the moment because there’s so much fear, there’s so much anxiety, and it’s like a person looking through a window at an experience rather than being in the experience.

Weihenmayer will also be guest speaking at 5Point this year.

Other activities will include close-up conversations with expert panelists and special guests, and curated adventure activities, plus a wide range of community festivities throughout Carbondale during the four days event.

Festival guests will include filmmakers Pete McBride, Forrest Woodward, Hilary Byrne, Sophie Danison, Dylan Brown and Sarah Herron. Film stars including Rob Prechtl, Kai Jones, Tate McDowell and Brian McDonnell will make special appearances as well.

Individual tickets for this year’s festival are on sale, from $15–$25 for daytime film programs and $35 for evening film programs.

More information, tickets, the full schedule, and volunteer opportunities is available at http://www.5pointfilm.com.

A public preview of the festival trailer will take place at 7 p.m., Friday, April 5, at The Launchpad, during Carbondale’s First Fridays celebration. Admission for this event is free.
