“Aspen restaurant featured in credit card promotion,” announced an article in The Aspen Times on July 19, 1963. “An Aspen restaurant is included among seven ‘high in the sky’ restaurants in a full-page American Express Credit Card ad which will appear in the August issue of Gourmet Magazine. Representing Aspen is Guido’s Swiss Inn. Others pictured are the Space Needle, Seattle; Top of the Flame, Detroit; Taubman’s Penthouse Club, New York City; Le Mont, Pittsburg; Top of the Mart, Atlanta; and the Lancer, Reno. Under the photo and the name of Guido’s Swiss Inn is the caption: ‘Aspen, Colorado, Chalet Restaurant 7800 ft. up on the famous Ajax Mountain ski slopes. Swiss atmosphere, Swiss waitresses, Swiss food — including Fondue Bourguignonne.’ Headline of the full-page advertisement reads, ‘Dining on top of the World with your American Express Credit Card.’” This image shows Guido’s Swiss Inn in 1963.
