“Ski Corporation grants special resident rates,” announced The Aspen Times on Nov. 8, 1951. “Aspen business people who have to snatch odd two-hour respites in their work for a run down the ski trails will be happy to hear that the Ski Corporation has announced a special boon to local residents this season of $1.10 for a single ride on the lift. This new rate will no doubt inspire many non-skiers to take a ride up to the Sundeck for lunch occasionally, just for the breathtaking beauty of the trip. With the single-ride rate, the corporation also grants the right for local adults to purchase coupon books of six one-day tickets for $15.30 or annual tickets of $78 for a single person, $105 for a married couple. And Aspen school children may ride all lifts for 50c a day.” The image above shows skiers near the base of Lift One in the early 1950s.
