“Students help ranchers with spuds,” announced The Aspen Times on Oct. 4, 1945. “Fifty-five students of the Aspen schools have brought signed notes from home saying that they would be out this week helping ranchers with the spud harvest. High school classes are not in session this week and about 30 of the high school students are working in the potato fields. All but three students of the seventh and eighth grades are out working also, as are about six from the fifth and sixth grade room. It is hoped that all will be thru and back in school next week.” This image shows Pyramid Peak, circa 1945. Several ranches are visible in the foreground.
