Aspen police looking for 3 suspects in Little Nell jewelry theft

Aspen police are looking for three male suspects after authorities received a report of a jewelry theft Friday afternoon at The Little Nell hotel. Officials said the stolen items likely are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Assistant Police Chief Bill Linn said the APD received a call from an individual at 1:10 p.m. reporting that the theft occurred 10 minutes prior.

At about 3:45 p.m., Linn could not confirm where the theft originated from. A representative of Betteridge jewelry, which is located in The Little Nell, said it was not merchandise from that store.

The suspects apparently picked a lock on a display case in the lobby area of the hotel, said the Betteridge representative.

Police have not released any descriptions of the suspects.

Officers were still on the scene Friday afternoon, and Linn was waiting for them to return to the police station for a debriefing.

Linn said officers are looking at surveillance video to see if a vehicle can be spotted in front of the building.
