Pitco residents rank high in philanthropy

A recent study shows Pitkin County residents are Colorado’s second-most generous when it comes to supporting nonprofits and charities.

Using data it mined from the IRS, financial technology company SmartAsset placed Pitkin County second only to Douglass County in the arena of philanthropy. The study said it “analyzed how much people donate as a percentage of their net income, and the proportion of people in a given county who made charitable donations.”

Pitkin County’s donation index of 55 easily was tops in the state; Eagle County’s 37.4 mark put it second. Pitkin County’s contributor index of 60.8, however, did not make the top five and brought its overall score down to 71.4. Douglas had an overall score of 72.3.
