Alex Ferreira has been trying for seven years to win a gold medal at his hometown event, and Thursday night he opened the Winter X Games by secure himself in Aspen lore.
Ferreira put down a 92.66-point run on his final trip down the Buttermilk superpipe to best David Wise who won silver with his final run.
Ferreira won silver last year at the Aspen event (as well as in the Olympics) and bronze in 2014 and ’15 in his hometown.
He first competed at the Winter X Games in 2013 and finished 13th.
