“The heat is on!” exclaimed The Aspen Times on July 29, 1954. “You Guys and Gals, that are under the tender age of twenty-one, BETTER TAKE HEED! This goes for ‘Music Students’ and ‘Village SMART-ALECS,’ that have been seen at the local pubs, guzzling beer, sipping cocktails, and the bolder ones, hoisting it over the rocks — and that goes for the ‘Alcoholic Adults’ that encourage it. During the busy season, the employees of Taverns and Lounges haven’t time to count your teeth, but they will take the time for full proof of your age, and turn you in on false IDs, resulting in heavy fines — so get back to your bubble gum and milk shakes.” This image shows a waiter standing at a table of wine at the Hotel Jerome, circa 1950.
