A backcountry skier died Sunday after being critically injured at about 13,400 feet elevation on Quandary Peak.
The skier has not yet been identified.
The Summit County Rescue Group responded to the call at about 11:20 Sunday morning. They used a Flight For Life helicopter to reach the man and tried to provide advanced life support but were not able to save him.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene and his body flown to St. Anthony Summit Medical Center in Frisco.
According to the rescue group, he was skiing with a companion and the companion was flown to the incident command post at Blue Lakes Road and Highway 9.
This is the second death on Quandary Peak in the past six months. A 67-year-old man died after he suffered a heart attack about half a mile up the Quandary Peak Trail while hiking in late July.
