The organizers of the Basalt Area Gives program will host a meeting Thursday to discuss the future of the effort to give a financial boost to nonprofit organizations serving the midvalley.
The meeting will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the community room at Basalt Regional Library.
One of the goals of the meeting, according to co-organizer Jim Light, is to get candid feedback on how the program can be more effective and to encourage greater participation by property owners and other residents of the midvalley.
So far, about $90,000 has been collected, including $20,000 from Aspen Skiing Co. The goal was to collect $500,000 for immediate distribution to nonprofits.
An independent citizens’ group created Basalt Area Gives when the Basalt Town Council decided to refund about $2.1 million to town residents for property tax overcharges. The group urged recipients to consider giving all or some of their refunds to the effort to support causes and groups working to improve the midvalley.
