Roaring Fork Valley environmentalists are ready to go beyond last month’s climate strike in an effort to draw attention to the need to reduce carbon emissions.

A coalition of conservation groups will host a climate forum in Carbondale on Wednesday to focus on next steps the region can take to reduce carbon emissions and transition to a clean energy economy.

The forum — “Beyond the Strike” — will be held at the Third Street Center in Carbondale from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. It is free and open to the general public.

“More than 4 million people in 163 countries on all seven continents participated in youth-led climate strikes in September,” said a news release about the event. “This interactive events aims to turn this passion and vision into practical solutions and positive actions.”

The forum will feature a panel discussion of local energy experts and elected officials, opening statements from student leaders and an overview of clean energy progress in the region.

Audience members also will get a chance to suggest ways to accelerate clean energy progress throughout the region.
