Give wildlife respect it deserves

While I’m sure that plenty of thought went into the decision-making process, I was deeply saddened to read about the trapping and killing of the mother mountain lion and her kittens in West Glenwood (“State wildlife officials rid West Glenwood of 5 mountain lions,” Feb. 1, Glenwood Springs Post Independent).

As the amount of wilderness habitat continues to shrink, these types of interactions should motivate us to set aside more land where wildlife can be wild. After all, they were here first so we owe some respect where it’s due.
