Gun-control letter misfires

The recent letter “Killer weapons too accessible” has factual errors (March 23, The Aspen Times).

According to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, “effective July 1, 2013 (HB13-1229) a background check is required for all private transfer of firearms which must be conducted through a licensed firearm dealer (FFL).”

The AR-15 is not an “assault rifle.” As Wikipedia will confirm, an assault rifle is selective-fire (capable of burst and/or fully automatic firing — a “machine gun”). An AR-15 is semi-automatic, like many other common firearm models.

More people seem to be killed here on skis and snowboards than by firearms. Should we ban snow sports for the common good?
