History: Ski splashing into Snowmass

As announced in the Jan. 20, 1977 edition of The Aspen Times: “During Snowmass Skol Day, snow sculpture judging will be going on all day in the mall and at the lodges.” Other activities included a citizen’s cross-country race at the touring center, pool tug o’war at the Snowmass recreation pool, intertubing, kite flying on Fanny Hill, Ski Joring which had to be “relocated to the second pasture up Owl Creek Road” and of course the Ski Splash finals at the El Dorado Pool. “$100 cash prize money has been put up by Schlitz in addition to the cash and prizes from Snowmass Resort businesses, so all those skiers are going to have something to jump for.” Might explain why the costumes were so creative!
