“Dance the old year out and the new year in with the Aspen antlered herd,” suggested The Aspen Times on Dec. 27, 1929. “New Year’s Eve will be one big night for all those who enjoy the dance, good fellowship and good music. How come? Why, the Aspen Elks will give their annual New Year’s Dance at Fraternal hall next Wednesday night, December 31st and, you know, that means a rattling good time for everybody at the dance. Each year this dance giving the old year a good sendoff and a royal welcome to the new year is the event of the Holiday season, and this year there will be more doing than ever before. The McHugh Paramount Orchestra of seven pieces will have a brand new program of dance music and the Elks will see that each and every guest has the best time ever. Good fellowship must and does reign supreme when the B.P.O.E. are in charge. The ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary will furnish one of their famous ‘Buddy’ lunches sometime after ‘Elks Eleven o’clock Toast.’ Big dance, big eats, and everybody happy.” The image below shows a group of revelers in the early 1900s.
