McClure Pass closed near Redstone because of avalanche danger

McClure Pass south of Carbondale is closed overnight because of avalanche danger, officials said late Wednesday.

The pass, which is on Highway 133 approximately 25 miles south of Carbondale, is expected to reopen in the morning, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The road is closed near Redstone between mile markers 43 and 47, CDOT said.

The pass, which tops out at 8,755 feet, is in the southwest corner of Pitkin County on the border with Gunnison County. The section closed is on the Pitkin County side of the pass near the turnoff for Marble.

The pass is included in a winter storm warning area in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
