Aspen Center for
Environmental Studies (ACES) hosted its annual Harvest Party at Rock Bottom
Ranch over the weekend, welcoming friends and families for a festive fall
celebration. The 113-acre wildlife preserve and educational ranch on Hooks Spur
Road in Basalt serves as ACES’ midvalley hub for environmental education,
wildlands preservation, and sustainable agriculture.
Always a sell-out event,
this year’s Harvest Party saw 1,000 guests over the course of four hours.
Rock Bottom Ranch
director Jason Smith also noted the ranch harvested over 600 pounds of food for
Harvest Party alone — all sustainably grown on site — which Aspen Skiing Co.
Catering used to prepare a healthy lunch for all. Among the harvest was
lettuce, masquerade potatoes, cherry tomatoes and radishes. Also on offer for
the day was live music from A Band Called Alexis, pumpkin carving, farm tours,
ranch games, apple cider pressing, hay rides, face painting, a pie-baking
contest, a vegetable harvest and art-making with The Art Base.
