Aspen girls basketball gets another win as boys fall to Olathe

The Aspen High School girls basketball team held on to beat visiting Olathe 35-33 on Friday night inside the AHS gymnasium. Climary Sanchez led the way with 10 points, while Ella Trane had 9 and Meghann Smiddy had 8.

The win improves the AHS girls to 4-7 overall. The four wins match their win total from the past four years combined, where they won only a single game each season.

The Aspen High School boys basketball team lost 69-51 to Olathe, doomed by a slow third quarter. The AHS boys fell to 4-9 overall.

The Skiers will play at Roaring Fork on Saturday.

Aspen hockey finishes in 2-2 tie with Summit

The Aspen High School hockey team played Friday night at Summit, with the game ending in a 2-2 tie. The Tigers led 1-0 midway through the first period, but Aspen’s Robbie Fitzgerald made it 1-1 about five minutes later.

The Skiers took a 2-1 lead early in the second period after a goal from Jack Pevny, only to have Summit get the equalizer in the final seconds of the period. Neither team scored in the third.

Aspen, now 5-4-4 overall, plays Saturday at Mountain Vista.

Basalt boys basketball ends losing streak in win over Cedaredge; girls fall

The Basalt High School boys basketball team won 52-30 over visiting Cedaredge on Friday. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Longhorns, going back to a 44-40 win at Aspen on Dec. 12. Trevor Reuss had a team-high 17 points.

The Basalt High School girls basketball team lost 41-36 to visiting Cedaredge on Friday night. BHS led by 10 points entering the fourth quarter but couldn’t hold on. Now 1-12 overall, the Longhorns play at Moffat County on Saturday.
