Aspen girls tennis finishes eighth at state tournament

The Aspen High School girls tennis team finished eighth at the Class 3A state tournament, which concluded Saturday in Greeley.

AHS senior Mary Williams had the best run of her high school career by making the semifinals at No. 1 singles before falling to Steamboat Springs junior Mae Thorp in a wild 8-7, 5-7, 1-6 match. Thorp lost to Peak to Peak’s Trisha Somasundaram in the finals, 6-4, 6-3. It was Somasundaram’s second straight state title, while it was the third straight year Thorp finished as runner up.

Also making the semifinals for Aspen was the No. 3 doubles team of Quinn Ramberg and Virginia Tassi, who lost 6-3, 7-5 to Steamboat Springs.

Peak to Peak won the 3A state championship.

Aspen baseball gets second win, BHS splits with Roaring Fork

The Aspen High School baseball team got its second win of the season on Saturday, an 8-4 victory over host Olathe. The Skiers are 2-18 overall and will close out the regular season on Tuesday with a pair of games at Middle Park.

The Basalt High School baseball team closed out its regular season on Saturday by splitting with Roaring Fork in Carbondale. Basalt (6-13) beat the Rams 7-3 and then lost 11-4. Regional brackets come out later this week.
